Photo Editing for Social Media
With all the momentum and hype that comes with social media, best believe I edit the hell out of my pictures. I don't care if it's already a decent selfie, I'm gonna find something to fix. Most people are like this to some degree-maybe they don't edit as much as I do, but it's truly a feat to post an unretouched photo. If you're someone who does, good for you. I saw that with no sarcasm at all. I admire those who don't feel the need to use the "no filter" hashtag purely because it would apply to every picture they post. Editing photos for social media is a bitch. It can be such a pain in the ass, and there's always the chance of going over the very thin line of retouching and over editing. I recently deleted my old Instagram, and started a new one with only black and white pictures. This is because it was literally too much work to edit for color, filter, exposure, etc. With a b&w feed all I worry about now is focus, framing, and lighting. I'd like to share with y'all some of the photo editing apps I use. These work for b&w, and color posting.
- Facetune - I use this to edit blemishes, and slim my body/face, etc. It's also useful for changing the focus of the picture. You can sharpen and blur specific areas with a paintbrush so you get exactly what you want.
- Over - I mainly use this for social media marketing. You can add text and art over photos. I use this for making my post cover art.
- Afterlight - Good for framing, and lighting. Has decent filters and good options for correcting color and sharpness. It's not free, but it's worth it.
- VSCO Cam - This is my favorite. It has the most versitle options and the most AMAZING filters. Also has an app for MacBooks that's almost as good as Adobe Lightroom. helpful hint: if you type in "VSCO FILTERS" on Pinterest you can see tons of sample pictures and the exact settings used to achieve that look
